Branson and Silver Dollar City Ranked In National Top 10 for Tour & Travel

Branson and Silver Dollar City are both Top 10 picks in the nation for tour and travel, according to a recent industry survey — indicators that the Southwest Missouri town known for live entertainment and world-class family attractions remains a national favorite.

In the annual survey conducted by the National Motorcoach Network, Branson placed number 3 on the Top 10 Destinations list, following Pigeon Forge and Washington, D.C., and ahead of cities including Nashville, Chicago and New York.

“I don’t think Branson has ever been below number 4 in all the years of our survey,” said Steve Kirchner, editor and publisher of Byways, the National Motorcoach Network magazine. “Branson has been number 1, 2, 3 or 4 consistently for 17 years and that’s pretty amazing.” In fact, Branson’s consistent high ranking in the survey earned it the title of Top Motorcoach Destination of the Decade in 2000, a testament to the city’s product, hospitality and service, according to Kirchner.

Silver Dollar City ranked sixth in the survey’s list of Top 10 Man-Made Attractions, with Disney World, the Grand Ole Opry and Opryland, Washington, D.C., the Statue of Liberty and Graceland, and ahead of such attractions as Universal Studios. The 1880s-style theme park has been internationally awarded for excellence in theme, presentation and operations, including the worldwide Applause Award and the THEA Award from the Themed Entertainment Association.

“At Silver Dollar City, we have much to offer motorcoach travelers, with six festivals, our demonstrating craftsmen, unique craft shops, great food and shows,” said General Manager Brad Thomas. “We appreciate being among the favorite attractions nationwide and continually add elements that give our guests more reasons to visit.”

“We’re pleased to be recognized as a top motorcoach destination, and we value the great service that the motorcoach industry provides to visitors seeking convenient travel to favorite destinations,” said Ross Summers, president of the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber and CVB. “Once they bring visitors here, we promise Branson shows them a great time.”

Referencing another of the survey’s Top 10, the restaurant picks are well-represented in Branson too, Summers said, with seven of the top 10 within the city: Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans, Golden Corral, Shoney’s, Olive Garden, Landry’s and Applebee’s.

The annual Top 10 rankings of the National Motorcoach Network are compiled from surveys of member operators indicating where they plan to travel in the coming year.

Bodies… The Exhibition open in Branson

Premier Exhibitions today announced that BODIES…The Exhibition, its groundbreaking exhibition featuring real human bodies, will make its Missouri debut in Branson. This world-famous anatomical exhibition will open at 9 Treasure Lake Drive, adjacent to the Branson IMAX Entertainment Complex.

The Exhibition takes visitors through several galleries providing an up-close look inside the skeletal, muscular, reproductive, respiratory, circulatory and other systems of the human body. Many of the 250+ whole body specimens are dissected in vivid athletic poses, allowing the visitor to relate to everyday activities. The Exhibition will change the way people see themselves. It is designed to enlighten, empower, fascinate, and inspire.

“We look forward to making BODIES part of Branson’s family friendly programming,” states Arnie Geller, President and CEO of Premier Exhibitions, Inc. “Visitors will be introduced to a unique and groundbreaking Exhibition that will leave them educated and inspired to take better care of themselves”.

The real human body specimens in the exhibition are preserved through a revolutionary technique called polymer preservation. In this process, human tissue is permanently preserved using liquid silicone rubber that is treated and hardened. The end result is a rubberized specimen, preserved to the cellular level, showcasing the complexity of the body’s many bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels and organs. The full-body specimens can take more than a year to prepare.

The Exhibition has attracted nearly four million visitors and is currently receiving worldwide acclaim in New York, Las Vegas, Washington D.C., Lisbon, Prague and other cities around the globe.

Branson’s Got 2 in “America’s Got Talent”

After making it through the initial auditions, the short list and finally to the twenty semifinalists for NBC’s hit television show America’s Got Talent, Branson’s Dutton Family and Johnny Lonestar are ready to proceed toward winning the grand prize of $1,000,000.

Dean Dutton, family patriarch of the talented group of seven siblings, mom and dad, exclaimed, “Our family is so excited with being able to participate in America’s Got Talent. We were blessed to make the semifinals and look forward to the rest of the competition.” Featuring a wide array of musical genres, The Duttons combine beautiful vocal harmonies, instrumental virtuosity, high-energy dancing, and heartwarming comedy. Each Dutton plays at least six different instruments.

Gun-slingin’, rope-twirlin’, bull-whippin’ cowboy Johnny Lonestar, with Clay Cooper’s Country Music Express, is on his way to the next round. Raised in Smithtown, NY, he started trick-roping at the age of 15. At 17, he won the “Will Rogers Rookie of the Year” award. By age 20, he received his first professional job on the Las Vegas strip performing rope-twirling, gun-spinning and whip-cracking. Johnny brought his act to Branson, and has been here for the past 13 years.

“America’s Got Talent is bringing the variety format back to the forefront of American culture. With the performances of Johnny Lonestar and The Duttons showcased on national television, the high caliber of Branson talent was well-represented,” said Branson Mayor Raeanne Presley.

“Starting with the semifinal performance episodes, the judging will be turned over to the American viewing audience who will vote each week for their favorites,” according to Ross Summers, President/CEO of the Branson/Lakes Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We hope that all their fans will vote for their Branson favorites.” The series culminates with a live finale where one act will walk away with a million dollar prize.

Presleys’ Country Jubilee Honored by Missouri’s Governor

Representatives from the State of Missouri, Taney County and the City of Branson surprised four generations of the Presley family during a special 40th season celebration on Saturday, June 30, 2007 with a proclamation reading ceremony to honor Presleys’ Country Jubilee for its outstanding contribution to Branson’s live entertainment industry.

During intermission of Presleys’ 40th anniversary performance, State Rep. Dennis Wood read a proclamation signed by Governor Matt Blunt and resolutions from the Missouri Senate and House of Representatives praising the Presleys for bringing live music and comedy to millions of Branson visitors over the past 40 years, and for their commitment to active community service. Branson Mayor ProTem Stan Barker read a proclamation naming June 30, 2007 Presley Family Day, and Taney County Commissioner Ron Herschend presented 82-year-old Lloyd Presley with a proclamation which designates the last Saturday of June each year as Country Music Day in honor of the Presleys.

“We are deeply honored and proud to be a member of this community,” said Gary Presley, co-producer and one of the original founders of Presleys’ Country Jubilee. “We are very fortunate to get to do what we love and for the generations of fans who have supported us over the years.”

Ross Summers, president and CEO of the Branson Lakes/Area Chamber of Commerce & CVB, led the surprise presentations during the show Saturday night and thanked the Presleys for building the first theater on Branson’s now famous Strip. Before the show, Ozark Mountain Bank representatives presented the Presleys with a gold and ruby encrusted, hand-carved wooden bass fiddle during an outdoor barbecue hosted by the Presley family.

National ABC news legend Paul Harvey recognized the Presleys’ 40th Anniversary during his Friday, June 29, 2007 radio news broadcast and has featured the family twice in previous “The Rest of the Story” broadcasts.

Presleys’ remains one of the top-rated shows in Branson and continues to receive numerous awards and accolades from fans and the media each year. In 2006, Springfield News-Leader readers named Presleys’ the “Best Music Show in Branson”. This year, guests are being treated to a season-long 40th birthday celebration packed with country favorites, today’s country hits, southern gospel music and hilarious comedy.

Girlfriends, Get Away – To Branson!

Girlfriends’ getaway… It just sounds inviting. Time spent together with good friends is precious; with bonding, sharing new experiences, and recalling why you’re such great friends. Time is important. We spend a lot of time creating ways to save it. Spend your girlfriend time wisely… Come to Branson!

Branson has everything women want: great accommodations, dining, shopping, spas, shows and a never-ending list of fun things to do. Relaxing comes to mind, too. And Branson offers hotels and resorts that are just right for the trip you are planning. What’s your pleasure? A place with a great view of Table Rock Lake? Maybe you want to be closer to shopping. Or should we say SHOPPING? How about a place on “the strip” that’s close to the shows and some wonderful one-of-a-kind shops? You’re in luck, because Branson has it all!

If luxury and a view tempt you, the Chateau on the Lake has what you want with fine accommodations, dining, and a two-story European-style spa. Relax in elegance or enjoy the nature trail, two lighted tennis courts and many more lakeside activities. Or you could stay at the Comfort Inn and Suites which also has great views of the Ozark Mountains, features a unique mountain lodge theme and is located close to all of the shopping outlets in Branson.

Luxury in a more rustic setting can be found at Big Cedar Lodge, also on Table Rock Lake. Big Cedar is just minutes south of Branson and boasts the casual elegance of Adirondack lodges, cozy cottages and log cabins. “Girls” are known far and wide for their love of shopping, but lots of ladies enjoy the outdoors, too. Big Cedar Lodge offers horseback riding, bass fishing and trout fishing, and wonderful dining. One of the restaurants, The Worman House, was originally built as a home in 1921. There are vaulted ceilings and beautiful wrought iron chandeliers. The caretaker’s house is now the Carriage House Spa.

And now, back to the shopping (SHOPPING). The new Branson Landing, located on Lake Taneycomo in Historic Downtown Branson, offers over 100 specialty shops and restaurants. J Jill, Ann Taylor Loft, Cache and Charlotte Russe are just a few of the shops in the beautiful outdoor atmosphere of the Landing. Shop ’til you drop into one of the fun restaurants like Joe’s Crab Shack or Cantina Laredo. Dine al fresco and enjoy the view of Lake Taneycomo and the magnificent $7.5 million Branson Landing fountains. Or you can get a spectacular view of the fire and water fountain show from The Candlestick Inn, a Branson tradition of casual fine dining just across the lake, where diners enjoy great meals in the cozy ambiance of wonderful antiques and art, much of it by local artists.

There is exceptional shopping all around Branson. The Engler Block on Highway 76 is a collection of local shops and artists. Helwig’s Art Glass has a unique selection of hand-blown glass; you can watch Wren Helwig blowing glass in his studio. You’ll also find quilts, handmade musical instruments and many traditional Ozark crafts being made right before your eyes.

Did you forget to bring a good “read” for those late afternoons by the pool? Check out T. Charleston’s Books & Gifts in the Grand Village; and while you’re there you will want to shop at Mulberry Mill, Kringles (a year-round Christmas shop) and the other unique individual shops. Or grab a great bite to eat at the Hard Luck Diner.

Three outlet malls provide a lot of variety and favorite stores like Liz Claiborne, Eddie Bauer, Nautica, Carter’s, Harry and David’s, Pendleton, Disney Store and Banana Republic. The things you decide to buy while you’re here will always be a little extra special. You’ll think of your girlfriends when you slip into that brightly colored sundress they insisted was just right for you.

The new Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing is a boutique hotel with an indoor pool, health club and the famous Liberty Tavern Restaurant. You’re close to all the “action” at the Landing, which also includes street entertainers, outdoor concerts and a water fountain spectacular that synchronizes light, sound, music and fire!

Branson has become famous as the “Live Entertainment Capital of the World” and now is home to dozens of theaters and more than 100 shows. You’ll enjoy everything from Irish step-dancing at Branson Variety Theater’s Spirit of the Dance to an evening of laughter at the Jim Stafford Theatre or Siegfried & Roy’s amazing protégé Darren Romeo, the Voice of Magic. You’ll have a rockin’ good time at Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater! And if you remember 1957, you’ll love the cars and memorabilia in ’57 Heaven there.

Andy Williams and his guest stars perform at his Moon River Theatre, the only theater ever written up in Architectural Digest. And now Andy offers delicious food (and an impressive display of his marvelous art collection) at the Andy Williams Moon River Grill, next door to the theater. Or enjoy Beatle Mania LIVE in Branson with Liverpool Legends, the ultimate Beatles experience, and meet Louise Harrison, George Harrison’s sister, at the show.

Another “Branson only” local favorite is Tony Z’s Italian Ristorante located on Highway 165, near the Welk Resort. Tony’s parents came to this country from Italy and he’s always had a passion for cooking. You’ll enjoy his specialty recipes in the old world charm of his dining room and the lounge. The Outback Steak and Oyster Bar, on Highway 76, is another local restaurant everyone loves. The food is delicious and the décor is down under with a remarkable collection of things from Australia, everything from planes to propellers, bikes, books and boomerangs. And a real classic, Rocky’s Italian Restaurant is downtown just a couple of blocks from the Landing.

Stone Hill Winery should be on your list of places to visit while you are in Branson. Touring their Branson facility is fun and informative, and you can taste their wonderful wines. The winery was written up in the March 2007 issue of Martha Stewart LIVING magazine. Stone Hill is a family winery, and the article recounts their preservation of the Norton grape, one of just a few red grapes native to America. The Norton grape makes one of their very best reds.

If the girls are interested in a round of golf, many of the courses in Branson are shorter and designed more for a ladies’ game. Ladies’ golf in Branson is not an afterthought, like so many places. There’s golf designed for players of all skill levels including well-planned forward tees, greens with open fronts, few forced carries and multiple tee boxes; simply better playability and more fun for the girls.

In Branson, you have so many choices: Courses (and every other experience) are memorable; each course is a visual treat, with water features, mountain terrain, tournament conditions and landscaping beyond expectations. Branson Creek Golf Club was named one of America’s top 100 golf courses and Missouri’s number one public golf course by Golf Digest; Thousand Hills Golf Club is the recipient of a 3 1/2 star rating from Golf Digest, and the course features USGA Bentgrass greens with Zoysia fairways and tees; and Pointe Royale Golf Course is a favorite of Branson-area celebrities, many of whom live on the course.

And there are a couple of new courses coming along; John Daly’s Murder Rock golf course will open this fall and The Tribute to Payne Stewart, a Bobby Clampett-designed signature course, is set for completion in 2008. Coming for Ozark hospitality and friendly service, most golfing guests are visitors from everywhere in the U.S., and they love having the staff at Branson area courses cater to them.

It’s easy to keep busy while you’re in Branson. But it’s also easy to relax and rejuvenate; spend the afternoon at the spa getting pampered with your girlfriends so you’ll be beautifully refreshed for your evening out. Don’t forget your cameras. You’ll want photographs to show off to everyone back home. And there is always someone nearby to “take a picture of all of you.”

Girlfriends are a very important part of your life. You deserve a really extraordinary place to spend quality time together. Your time in Branson can be everything you want for your Girlfriends Getaway! And remember: What happens in Branson . . . Becomes a treasured memory!

(And here’s an important tip: If you shop for the fellows at the new Bass Pro Shops at Branson Landing, they won’t care that you’ve already booked your next getaway to Branson!)

All New Branson Hall Of Fame Theater

Branson Entertainment Hall of Fame and Branson Mall join forces; feature Leroy Van Dyke, Ronnie Prophet and T.G. Sheppard

Branson, Missouri; Monday, July 2 2007 – The Branson Entertainment Hall of Fame and the Branson Mall, 2206 West Highway 76, announce another new venture the “Branson Hall of Fame Theatre”. Grand Opening Festivities will feature the premier of “Country Gold Concerts” starring Leroy Van Dyke of “Auctioneer” and “Walk On By” fame on June 28, 29 and 30.

Ken Barth of the Branson Mall stated, “We worked diligently to find quality entertainment. Mr. Van Dyke’s schedule will allow him to perform 16 weekends of the remaining season; Ronnie Prophet will be here for eight weekends and T.G. Sheppard for one weekend. This will be a huge boost for the Branson Mall and a great collaboration between the theater and the Branson Entertainment Hall of Fame.

Leroy Van Dyke is immediately associated with the “self-penned” Number One Hit “The Auctioneer,” and perhaps most notably for recording “Walk On By,” the biggest country music single in history based on record sales, media plays, and number of weeks on the charts. In addition to his extraordinary recording career, Leroy Van Dyke has been a member and star of the “Grand Ole Opry;” one of the first country artists to successfully fill venues in Las Vegas; and a favorite at State Fairs and Expositions for decades.

Ronnie Prophet is a member of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, and is always a favorite when he performs in Branson. Prophet is known for his colorful high-energy shows that combine song, comedy, impersonations and his considerable skill as a guitarist. His quick wit has brought him work as a Master of Ceremonies at festivals (i.e.. the Wembley Festival of Country Music in England) and for CCMA awards ceremonies and a succession of Country Music Television Programs in Canada. He has also performed on BBC TV and on tour in Great Britain and Europe.

Special Guest Star T.G. Sheppard (July 26,27 & 28) has become one of the most consistently played artists on country radio today, with 17 Number One singles to his credit. Hits like “Last Cheater’s Waltz,” “I Loved ‘Em Every One,” and “Finally” have been the key to creating T.G.’s identifiable musical style.

Branson lures fishermen

As quietly as possible you load your tackle box and gear into the boat. There are no other sounds as you walk from your cabin down to the dock. The chirps of a cardinal off in the trees or the sounds of ducks landing on the water don’t disturb your silence. Far removed from your usual hectic morning routine, it would take more than these sweet sounds to break your concentration. There are bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish cruising beneath the dock and along the nearby shoreline. You’ll want to fish your way out of the cove!

Branson, Missouri, is one of the most popular fishing destinations in the country. Table Rock Lake and Lake Taneycomo offer fishermen not only great angling but also some magnificent scenery and an extraordinary variety of accommodations. From a basic cabin or regular motel room to luxury lodging, Branson has it all, with more than 100 resorts adjacent to its pristine lakes.

A fishing vacation to Branson has everything fishermen and women want. There are secluded places to fish, but you are close to all the other things you like when you are away from home: a comfortable place to stay, good food, fun, shopping and entertainment. And remember: What happens in Branson . . . becomes a treasured memory – whether it is the new fly rod you bought, the photos in your album, or a trophy fish on your wall.

Lake Taneycomo flows through historic downtown Branson and right by the new Branson Landing. The Powersite Dam on the White River created Lake Taneycomo. And with the completion of Table Rock Dam in 1958, which turned Taneycomo into a coldwater lake, it has become one of the best trout fishing areas in the United States. Nearly one million trout are released each year from the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery into Lake Taneycomo.

This narrow lake winds through the hills and hollows of the Ozarks in Branson; and water coming from Table Rock Dam creates a current, making it seem more like a river than a lake. Fishermen go for record rainbow and brown trout, using bait as well as artificial lures. The upper portion of Lake Taneycomo is favored by fly-fishermen and waders.

River Run Outfitters, owned and operated by Stan and Carolyn Parker, is located on Highway 165, just about one-half mile north of Table Rock Dam. In the spring of 2007 Orvis awarded River Run Outfitters with the 2006 Orvis Endorsed Outfitter of the Year. The presentation was made at a rendezvous of Orvis guides and outfitters held in Cody, Wyoming. The Parkers have fished rivers and lakes in this Ozarks area for more than 30 years. Their shop offers fly-fishing equipment for men and women, as well as everything for every angler’s fly-tying needs. For a unique experience in the Ozarks, they offer guided fly fishing trips in western-style drift boats.

Lake Taneycomo is lined with resort motels and cabins, cottages, as well as bed and breakfast inns, with accommodations for every taste. If you are staying at or near Branson Landing, you’ll be close to the new Bass Pro Shops. It is a paradise for fishermen and has absolutely everything you need for fishing on Lake Taneycomo or Table Rock Lake, from bobbers ‘n’ bait to boats.

Table Rock Lake is more than 52,000 acres of clear water, with more than 800 miles of shoreline. Table Rock was designed, built and is still controlled by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Any building along the shoreline is restricted. This means fishermen and boaters on the lake enjoy unspoiled views of Ozarks wildlife, rock bluffs and hundreds of varieties of trees. You might share your cove with a family of raccoons having a bite to eat along the water’s edge or maybe spot deer swimming across the water ahead of you.

Table Rock Lake is famous for its bass fishing and plays host to many fishing tournaments each year. Largemouth, smallmouth, white bass and Kentucky spotted bass can make a fisherman’s dreams come true. And some anglers also love fishing for crappie, bluegill, catfish and paddlefish. The submerged timber makes a wonderful environment for the fish. Table Rock State Park Marina and other commercial boat docks provide fuel, supplies, and boat and equipment rentals. Along with advice about “what they’re bitin’ on this week.” Guide services are available, too, on both lakes.

If your fishing trip to Branson includes some non-fishermen (but who doesn’t like to fish?!), there are plenty of activities to keep them happy, from morning ’til night. Table Rock Lake temperatures range from an average of 42°-47° in the winter to 85°-90° in the summer. Boating, swimming, skiing, parasailing, scuba diving and snorkeling are popular water sports here. Back on land, the shopping, shows, theme parks, family attractions and dining will entertain all of you.

The Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Drama and Silver Dollar City have attracted visitors to Branson for more than forty years. Celebration City is the newest theme park. They all offer daytime and evening fun for “kids of all ages.”

The Live Music Capital of the World offers visitors more than 100 shows. Tap your toe to your favorite style of music or laugh it up with a great comedian, Branson has entertainment for everyone. And you certainly won’t go hungry! Enjoy cuisine from fine dining to all-you-can-eat buffets and everything in between.

Branson resorts have a wide range of amenities and services. Big Cedar Lodge on Table Rock Lake offers guests rustic elegance, with accommodations that include log cabins and Adirondack-style lodges, a spa, several restaurants, boat dock and marina, as well as horseback riding, special activities for children, and more.

Indian Point on Table Rock Lake is another popular spot for fishermen and other visitors to Branson. Resorts, motels, campgrounds, RV hookups, marinas, cruises, restaurants and shops are all available. Many of the accommodations on Indian Point, and other lodging around Branson, include kitchens so that you can enjoy a meal out on your deck – before heading out again to fish!

It was in 1907, 100 years ago, that Harold Bell Wright’s The Shepherd of the Hills was published. People started traveling to Branson to see the beautiful Ozarks country he wrote about in his best-selling novel. Many things have changed over the years, but the wonderful hospitality of the people that live here is still the same!

Great fishing, naturally beautiful scenery, wonderful accommodations, family attractions and Ozarks hospitality . . . Branson has it all!
